Ukraine is located in the corridor that Napoleon and Hitler traversed during their Russian invasions. The Russians lost a mere 200,000+ to the French, and a trivial 24,000,000+ to the Germans. The US took the glory with an enormous 418,500 lost.

It's a red line to the Russians, and the Ukrainians, hyped up with US brainwashing and weapons, have been willing to goad the Russians into action on their border. No one in their right mind would do such a thing, least of all the US. The US is fighting the Russians down to the last Ukrainian and mercenary.

All wars are messy. This one is militarily, quick and decisive. But the bad guys are blending in and taking hostages, and that will drag it out.
